If you have an application that you would like to see some success with, there is no way you can get around application whitelisting. Since so many apps have been associated with bugs and other issues that no one wants to deal with, not being whitelisted basically means that you are blacklisted.
In previous times, the only apps that were blocked were the ones that the users themselves blocked. If these apps found their way to the blacklist, then they would be blocked before they ever got to the user. Since there are so many apps today, it is no longer a matter of avoiding being put on the blacklist. Now it is a matter of hoping for application whitelisting since apps that are not whitelisted are not allowed through many firewalls and antivirus programs. This does not mean that there is something wrong with the app. It simply means that it has not been deemed to be safe and worth putting on the whitelist. It is the technological version of accountability. You have to prove your worth first in order to be successful rather than being successful until you get blacklisted. So how do you go about it?
From the very beginning you need to go through the right channels. That means offering the app through valid lists rather than just spamming everyone. It does not hurt if you get some great reviews on the app and you partner up with companies that have sound reputations. You may be tempted to work with companies that use unsavory techniques in order to get information from the user, but this will most likely end with your app getting a bad name.
Create an app that people actually need and they will gravitate towards it. Do not be in such a hurry for it to get exposed and you will not end up using techniques that mean you will never be whitelisted.
